Description

The Silver Streak galaxy is a large bright spiral in the Virgo cluster of galaxies. It is the middle galaxy in this 3 galaxy pairing. The other two (bottom left, top right respectively) are NGC 4206 and NGC 4222. The three spirals form an interesting geometrical line-up at slightly different angles. Whether this is an actual association or just a line-of-sight coincidence is unknown. NGC 4216's distance is on the order of 55-60 million light years.

In the image, there is a hint of one of the two tidal tails. Look to the lower right side of NGC 4216 (about 1.5 galaxy lengths to the right). It's seen as a slight left-right oriented smudge. Many other smaller galaxies are scattered about the field.

This data was collected partially at my home in Colorado, but mostly at the TAAA CAC dark site in southern Arizona.
